Scenario
A multinational fleet management provider had recently undergone an initiative to re-platform functionality in their Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) service. Forming part of a broader digital shift within their business, Arinco was engaged to deliver a solution that could both satisfy a short-term capability requirement and provide a long-term strategic platform. As part of this initiative, Arinco completed a review of the application architecture, advised improvements, completed a design, and deployed a production-ready solution to Microsoft Azure quickly and securely.
Solution
Arinco leveraged its Azure Kubernetes Service (AKS) accelerator to assist with moving to modern, DevOps driven methodologies and processes. Key activities included:
- Designing, planning and implementation of a multi-environment AKS solution
- Integration of modern security products, such as Azure Key Vault to the deployment process
- Implementation of both platform and application scaling using AKS cluster auto-scaling and pod auto-scaling
- Conversion of Docker compose capability to Kubernetes native manifests and Helm Charts
- Developing infrastructure CI/CD pipelines for the AKS platform
- Developing application CI/CD pipelines for multiple container-based workloads
- Creating documentation of both the AKS and application solution, including general operations runbooks
- Handover sessions, ensuring digital team members had appropriate knowledge in DevOps, Azure and Kubernetes practices
Outcome
In less than 6 weeks, Arinco had deployed a production-ready AKS environment, hosting a new cloud-native application. Arinco provided the following innovative outcomes:
- From week one, AKS Clusters were available for customer use, aligned to Microsoft and industry best practices
- Standardised application deployment and presentation patterns were made available for use by digital and development teams
- Modern DevOps standards were integrated to the customer environment and development process
- Automatic deployment to each environment can be completed in less than 15 minutes
