Overview
Arinco helped a leading Australian financial services organisation reduce device provisioning time by up to 70% and simplify endpoint management by moving to a unified, cloud-first modern work platform. With Windows 10 approaching end of support and a fragmented end user computing environment built on multiple legacy tools, the organisation needed a secure, scalable way to modernise device and identity management while supporting hybrid work.
Arinco delivered a Microsoft Intune-centred solution, underpinned by Microsoft Entra ID, Windows Autopilot and Microsoft Cloud PKI. The solution replaced on-premises infrastructure, streamlined policy management and created a more secure, consistent user experience while helping the organisation maximise its existing Microsoft 365 investment.
Business challenge
As the organisation continued to grow and evolve, its end user computing environment became increasingly complex to manage. With Windows 10 approaching end of support, it faced urgent pressure to transition to a modern, supported operating system while maintaining strong security and compliance standards.
Over time, multiple operating system upgrades and legacy design decisions had resulted in a sprawling on-premises Group Policy environment. This made it difficult to enforce consistent security and configuration standards, increased administrative overhead and introduced risk through conflicting or redundant policies.
Device management was also fragmented across multiple platforms, with separate tools used for Windows, macOS and iOS devices, limiting visibility and complicating reporting, compliance and the rollout of new security controls.
The organisation recognised the need to simplify and modernise its approach, reduce reliance on on-premises infrastructure, and establish a single, scalable platform that could support future growth, regulatory requirements and flexible work arrangements.
Solution
The customer engaged Arinco to assess its existing end user computing environment and design a modern, cloud-first approach to endpoint and identity management. Arinco delivered a unified Modern Work solution that simplified device management, strengthened security and improved the user experience across the organisation.
Unified endpoint management
At the core of the solution was Microsoft Intune, selected to consolidate management of Windows, macOS and iOS devices into a single cloud-based platform. This replaced multiple legacy tools and provided consistent policy enforcement, application deployment, compliance monitoring and reporting across the entire device fleet.
Policy modernisation and identity transition
Arinco migrated device configuration and security settings from legacy on-premises Group Policy Objects into Intune configuration and compliance profiles, removing duplication and conflict while enabling more consistent and predictable device behaviour.
The organisation also transitioned from traditional on-premises Active Directory to Microsoft Entra ID, enabling modern authentication, simplified access controls and tighter integration with Microsoft security services.
Secure, automated device provisioning
To streamline device onboarding, Arinco implemented Windows Autopilot, enabling lite-touch provisioning of Windows 11 devices. New devices can now be shipped directly to users and automatically configured with corporate policies, applications and security controls on first sign-in.
Legacy on-premises certificate services were replaced with Microsoft Cloud PKI, simplifying certificate lifecycle management and removing the need to maintain on-site infrastructure.
Data protection and user experience
User folders were redirected to OneDrive for Business using Intune policies, ensuring secure cloud backup, data protection and seamless access across devices.
Self-service application deployment through the Intune Company Portal empowered employees to install approved applications on demand, reducing reliance on IT support and improving day-to-day productivity.
The cloud-native architecture of Intune, combined with Entra ID and Microsoft Cloud PKI, established a scalable foundation to support future growth, new device types and evolving security and compliance requirements.
Outcomes
Arinco delivered a modern, cloud-first endpoint management environment that significantly improved security, efficiency and user experience for the financial organisation. Key outcomes include:
- Faster device deployment: Reduced provisioning time by up to 70% using Windows Autopilot and standardised build processes.
- Lower operational overhead: Consolidated multiple device management platforms into Intune, reducing administrative effort by approximately 30%.
- Improved security posture: Standardised policies, conditional access and Windows Hello for Business reduced password-related incidents by approximately 60% and strengthened endpoint security.
- Simplified compliance: Centralised reporting and consistent configuration improved audit readiness and reduced compliance-related incidents by approximately 25%.
- Resilient data access: OneDrive folder redirection ensured secure backup and accessibility of user data, supporting hybrid and remote work.
- Increased employee productivity: Self-service application deployment, faster onboarding and reduced authentication friction minimised downtime and enabled employees to spend more time on core business activities.
- Reduced IT support demand: Automation, self-service tooling and simplified policy management lowered helpdesk dependency and day-to-day support effort.
- Cost efficiency: Maximised existing Microsoft 365 licensing and eliminated third-party tooling, delivering clear ROI without additional licence spend.
- Future-ready foundation: A scalable, cloud-native endpoint platform positioned the organisation to support future growth, new device types and evolving security requirements.
What's next
Building on this foundation, the financial organisation will continue its transition to Windows 11 using Microsoft Intune and Windows Autopilot to support a smooth, secure upgrade experience aligned to Microsoft lifecycle requirements.
The organisation will also bring its macOS and iOS fleet into Intune, further consolidating endpoint management under a single platform. Continued expansion of the Intune Company Portal will enable greater employee self-service, reduce reliance on IT support and support a more scalable, cloud-first workplace.
